London theatres have cancelled performances on Tuesday night in response to riots

In response to riots in the capital Tuesday night performance of a number of London Theatre has been canceled.

The Battersea Arts Centre, Greenwich Playhouse and the Arcola Theatre in Dalston are among those that have closed their doors.

The Albany in Deptford also tweeted it had been "advised to close by the police".

West End theaters yet announced any stops.

King's Head Theatre in Islington Southwark shelved in the sea near dams The Turn of the Screw, while the theater canceled its performance.

A spokesman from the Arcola said: "Dalston Kingsland area is pretty much shut down and the Arcola Theatre has decided to cancel this evening's performance of On the Record and African Gothic."

The Union Theatre said on its Twitter feed: "Having to cancel tonight's show, can't risk anyone's safety. Boarding up buildings around us. Feel gutted and sad and a bit scared too."

Other venues affected include the Churchill in Bromley, the King's Head in Islington, Theatre 503 in Battersea, Stratford East, The Landor Theatre in Clapham and Broadway Barking.

London Theaters tonight's show cancel

London Theaters tonight's show at London's Landor, Arcola Union, King's Head Theatre has been canceled, and the Battersea Arts Centre in London is closed early in response to the riots.

London Theatre star Diana Rigg breaks in Pygmalion

London Theatre star Diana Rigg breaks in Pygmalion will appear later when the season opens.

She will take up the role of Mrs Higgins, with Rupert Everett (Henry Higgins) and Kara Tointon (Eliza Doolittle).

Directed and designed by Philip Prowse, production at Garrick Theatre on Wednesday 25th May is set open, booking until Saturday 3rd September.

Pygmalion tells the famous story of Eliza Doolittle, the London is the flower girl to Professor Higgins a woman later changed a bet with his friend.

The Garrick Theatre is playing host to The Hurly Burly Show, which is running at the West End venue until Sunday May 1st.

London theater awards to be received by Sondheim

The Olivier Special Award will be received by US composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim when Britain’s top theater honors are awarded on March 13.

A Little Night Music and Sweeney Todd,the 80-year-old hit shows composer will be attending the ceremony at Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London’s West End.

Adrian Lester, who starred in Sondheim’s Company, and other guests are going to give tribute to Sondheim.

The board of the Society of London Theatre (SOLT) chooses the Special Award and there have been 24 recipients in total including Alec Guinness, Judi Dench, Sam Mendes, Peter Hall and Laurence Olivier, after whom the awards are named.

Organizers are hoping a red carpet before the show will attract more stars to the event and the public can watch the awards live on digital TV. They announced a new sponsorship deal with MasterCard earlier this year. -- Reuters

Tickets for The Rivals will be available next week for those fans who are travelling to London in forthcoming week.

To catch the hilarious Penelope Keith as the "verbally misguided" Mrs Malaprop at the Theatre Royal Haymarket,this could be the last chance.

Set in 1775 Bath, the show follows the lives of Mrs Malaprop, her romantic niece Lydia Languish, country bumpkin Bob Acres and a whole host of other characters, as they attempt to pursue love over the course of one day.

A reviewer writing for TheatreguideLondon said: "Director Peter Hall evidently trusts the text so completely that he has instructed his cast to do nothing to try to add to the comedy already there on the page."

They suggested this approach means there are laughs aplenty for the audience.

More London theatre tickets released for The Children's Hour

For The Children's Hour additional London Theatre tickets have been released.

For an extra week until May 7th 2011 at the Comedy Theatre, performance will carry on and it is the second time run has been expanded.The performance was originally due to end its run on April 30th.

The play's all-star cast - including Keira Knightley, Ellen Burstyn, Carol Kane and Elizabeth Moss from Mad Men.

Due to building repairing of Comedy Theatre a show scheduled for Monday February 14th was cancelled.The Ambassadors Theatre Group, which owns the venue, apologised for any inconvenience caused to punters by this.

Festival gala Cultures of China wows London


The Lycium Theatre in the heart of London's Theatre district is no foreigner to good houses but having a sell-out mass waiting outside for the doors to open is a little strange even for them. Yet this is what happened Monday night when the Cultures of China, Event of Spring gala event for the Chinese New Year was held

.The audience was greeted with speeches by Ms Li Haifeng from the Foreign Affairs Office in Beijing, Liu Xiaoming, China’s Ambassador to the UK and Li Wenxing, Chairman of the show’s arranging committee. The diversity of performances began with a show of customary Mongolian dancing, followed by other dance acts, including the customary military dance.

Then came solo singing by the well-known singers: Song Zuying, Yan Weiwen, Cai Guoqing and Solangwangmu.Mrs Liu Xiuirong returned to enchant the throng with Pingju Opera, even conversing with the hostess Liu Xiaona in operatic style.

Mr Yan Weiwen conventional the biggest ovation of the evening, not just for his singing but because he proved himself a complete expert: when the music stopped, he didn't, the second time in the midst of an impressively complicated vocal line in the song "Mother". All the singers had complexity evasion the stage, having to give more than one encore each.

A great way to increase wellbeing is to go and watch musicals and to buy a London Theaters tickets.

After another excellent review was given to the show at the Arts Theatre,Woody Sez may be well worth getting hold off.

He found it to be a generous tribute to Woody Guthrie, the folk artist of the 1930s who is said to have inspired artists such as Bob Dylan said the London Evening Standard, Henry Hitchings.

Eponymous star role played by David Lutken,which was highly appreciated by the critics,for his "genial presence", as well as his obvious skill as a musician.

"It's a well-crafted, enjoyable homage to an artist who deserves to be better known. It will appeal tremendously to Guthrie's fans and should win him a few more," concluded Mr Hitchings, giving the production four stars.

London theatre tickets for Shoes and choreographer

Shoes The Musical show London Theater Tickets are now available.For its West End debut, choreographer and director Stephen Mear has been talking about how he has got it ready.

He told WhatsonStage.com that he cut "a couple of numbers" out of the show before tweaking one of them and adding it back in.

"It is about refining it, making it slicker and tidier, sometimes changing the running order," the expert said.

With standing ovations every night,Mear confirms that the response from test audiences so far has been "fantastic"

The musical opens at the Peacock Theatre on February 15th and is currently booking until April 3rd 2011.

Rehearsals underway for Frankenstein


Rehearsals for the Frankenstein show at London Theaters are well underway.

Director Danny Boyle and principal actors Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller confirm Guardian about the preparations done so far with the forthcoming play, which opens at the National Theatre next month.

The performers alternate in playing Frankenstein and the Creature, which Boyle said is not to urger theatre fans to go and see it again and adin, but a device that questions whether evil is inside people or if it is created by their environment.

"It's double the workload but not double the rehearsal time," he pointed out.

It was recently revealed that Underworld - the dance music duo featured in Boyle's film Trainspotting - are to create the score for Frankenstein.

In the New Year Honours list revealed on 31 Dec,2010,fans of London Theatres please to see some familiar faces.

Name of host of stage performers,some of whom appeared in plays or musicals as recently as this year included in the list.

David Suchet, 64,for his contributions to the arts was awarded a CBE.He starred in All My Sons to critical acclaim earlier in 2010.

The lyrics for the hit musical Les Miserables wrote by Herbert Kretzmer and he was awarded an OBE, while Harriet Walter is to be made a dame.

Sister Act star Sheila Hancock has also been given a CBE in the list.
